Halloween Scrapbooking Workshop – November 25th and 26th

I will be holding a Halloween Inspired Scrapbooking workshop on November 25th and 26th from 6:30-9pm at my house in Oakville, Ontario. Included in the workshop are all the materials, instruction and the sketch you’ll need to create a 2 page layout, for just $10. All you’ll need to bring with you are 4-6 pictures to use on your pages. So make sure you take some pictures this Saturday of some ghouls and goblins!!! Here are some tips for capturing the BIG day:

  1. Take pictures of everything – from removing the seeds during pumpkin craving to cute little costumes that make Halloween what it is. Don’t forget to take a picture of the photographer too.
  2. Get a picture of the entire group together. Use the timer so you can be in the picture too–make sure you all squeeze in for a close up.
  3. Take pictures from different angles – you never know which one will turn out the best
  4. Make sure the light source is in front of your subject not behind them
  5. Try shining a light from below for a spooky looking picture
  6. Get the person to act out their costume for some candid shots
  7. To take a picture of a Jack O’ Lantern, try to take the picture at dusk before it gets too dark. Put extra candles inside to make it shine brighter, and make sure turn your flash OFF. Use a tripod or put the camera on a steady surface to avoid camera shake
  8. When it gets dark, make sure to increase your ISO, slow the shutter down and open up the apeture if you can put your camera on manual.
  9. HAVE FUN!!! and remember even if the picture is not perfectly posed it will still capture the moment and the personality of the person you’re taking the picture of

SPECIAL: RSVP by November 6th to receive a $5 coupon to use for purchases you make that night. Plus, you’ll receive a sneak peak of my pages as soon as they’re ready!!!

Hope to see you all soon and Happy Halloween!

Sweet Centers!

Well, I was being very ambitious tonight…I tried to make you a video but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to post it. I recorded myself making this card and I just can’t bare to watch it. It took me over 45 minutes to complete this card, mostly because I couldn’t get that cord to look right and the card just looked so blah…I even had it planned out and everything. I had planned to use red and green Smarties, but wouldn’t you know it I only found 1 red and no greens in 2 boxes. What happened to the “When you eat your Smarties, do you eat the red ones last?” How can you, when you can’t find any? I also think the camera made me a little nervous. Anyway, here’s a picture of the card and the items I used to make it. Please leave me a comment to let me know if you like the card as is or what you think I should have done to make it look better.

More Christmas Cards!

It’s been a crazy week. I’ve been making cards but I haven’t had any time to take pictures, edit and post them. My sister had her baby girl, Mia, she’s adorable and I’ve been trying to spend some time with her. I was also helping her make little gifts for Mia’s welcome home party. I also started back at work after being at home for 11 months. It’s a HUGE change but I think we’re adjusting…sort of. We haven’t made a single dinner yet, but thank God for Sobey’s roast chickens. Hopefully the kids wont’ get sick of it anytime soon! This weekend is completely packed but I’m still hoping to make a card or two to share with you next week. Ok, enough chatting…here are the cards for this post. I’ll post the details later on today. Have a wonderful day and sorry for not posting more often.

 Enjoy!

Gratitude and Thanks

This week’s challenge on Pals Paper Arts is a theme challenge all about being thankful. To list all the things that I’m thankful for, I’d be here forever. God has blessed my family with so much. To start we have food on our table every night, we have a shelter over our heads that we love, we have clean water to drink and freedom to be who we are. We have people to love and people that love us…everything else is gravy!!! The card I made today is very simple in design and colour scheme but has become one of favourites. I made a similar one before, but I think I like this one better. It might just be because I was thinking of all the good in my life at the time I was making it. The stamps I used are clear stamps that I got a while back. The ribbon was left over from my son’s baptism, I just love that ribbon. Actually, the ribbon I used on the “Hello Baby” card yesterday was left over from daughter’s baptism. Moral of the story…NEVER throw away left over ribbon:). I wish I had some Rich Razzleberry ribbon for this card but I didn’t so the blue had to do.  I hope you like the card. While you’re looking, take a few minutes and think of some of your blessings…feel free to share in your comment, I’d love to hear what you’re thankful for.

Just for you

Hello again. I decided to post another card today. This was a challenge from Kristina’s Finally Friday video combined with a swirly design she used on her Make A Card Monday video. I stamped the design using chocolate chip (the colour of the day) and used a white gel pen to bring out some of the details. The stamp is from the stamp set “Block Stamp 2″ by Autumn leaves. It’s one of those stamps I’ve had for a while but just never used. I think that’s the theme for today. In keeping with today’s theme, I used silver thread on the buttons which I’ve had a for a long time but never used until today. Let me know what you think!

Hello Baby!

Good Morning!!! Today is one of those days I just feel like singing and hanging out in my craft room…don’t ask me why. It might be because my normally cranky in the morning daughter woke up with a smile or maybe its because I ordered a bunch (a lot) of stuff from Stampin’ Up! and now I’m just waiting for it to ship or maybe its because my husband accidentally put WAY too much honey in my tea this morning…can we say sugar rush. Who knows, but I’m gonna take advantage of it. I started this morning by making this “Hello Baby” card for my sister. She’s expecting a baby girl in the next couple of weeks and I just wanted to be ready for when she decided to make an appearance. My sister is hoping for sooner than later. I felt the same way with my second, I just couldn’t wait for him to come out. Thank God he was 3 weeks early. Anyway, back to the card. I used the stamp set “Baby Shower” by a company called Imaginisce. I can’t remember where I got it but its been sitting in my pile of clear stamps for a while and I never  used it until today. I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of it in the next little while, there’s at least 3 babies on the way…I’m super excited about meeting them all!!! Really, back to the card now. I sponged Chocolate Chip ink around the edges of all the card stock (not sure if you noticed but this has become a favorite technique of mine lately, I just love that look). I used a corner rounder and this other corner punch that I think my mom picked up for me from I don’t know where (also used for the first time today). Myother favorite technique lately is random stamping (the rattle was stamped using chocolate chip all over the background), its a great substitute for when you  don’t have the right designer (patterned) paper. I hope you like it!
