One card, two looks!

I know I’ve been M.I.A. lately but things have just been so busy. I just realized that haven’t updated my blog in almost a week…how crazy is that? I was preparing for my first workshops and was a little bit stressed out but both turned out pretty good (I think). Anyway, I got an email from another demonstrator with the tittle “One card, two looks” and I just couldn’t wait to try this out. What a simple yet effective technique for saving time.  The following two cards use the same design but I just used different colours, stamps and voila…two very different cards.  These cards also work for the C4C4 challenge over at Crazy 4 Challenges and the PPA9 Challenge at Pals Paper Arts. Enjoy!!!

K.I.S.S.

For this week’s Pals Paper Art challenge it’s a K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, sweetie). I didn’t have time to make any cards this weekend so when the opportunity presented itself I couldn’t just create 1, I created 2 cards today. It definitely helped that the theme was simplicity. Not just in the look but the creation of it had to be simple too. For the first card, I wanted to keep the colour scheme as simple as possible…black, white and one bright colour. For the second card I wanted colour but simplicity in design. I hope you like them!

ICSketches Sept. 09 DT Call!

Yesterday as I was surfing around I came across a pretty cool blog called Inspirational Card Sketches. It has a weekly sketch challenge which looks like so much fun to try out. They also happen to have a DT (Design Team) call that ends tonight. All you have to do is make a card using the sketch below and link to the DT call post. The card I made has an oval window in the front so you can see the stamped flower which is attached to the inside of the card. The edges are all sponged and I used a white gel pen to bring out some of the details in the card. I also tried something new with the ribbon, I hope you like it.  Here is the sketch and the card.

Giving Thanks!

In preparing my card for this weeks MTSC39 challenge. I realized how much I have to be thankful for. I have an awesome husband, two amazing children, a wonderful family, great friends, the best neighbours in the world, a home and a hobby I truly love. I had a lot of time to think of all these things because this has been one of the finickiest cards I have ever made. Not that it was a hard card, but things just didn’t seem to go right. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed making the card. I just had to stamp the leaves (both sets) a few times to get them the way I wanted them, than my Cricut (albeit my fault) cut through the stamped image after I coloured it so I had to redo it two more times. The embroidery string kept getting knotted on the buttons…so much so I started questioning the need for embroidery string to exist in my accessory bin at all, EVER!!! In the end though I’m very happy with how the card turned out and I think it was worth all the trouble because I learned something about my Cricut today…nothing about embroidery string; but maybe next time! Here is the card, I hope you like it.

Dream, Create, Inspire!

Today I saw a great tutorial on creating a card sketch notebook (although I guess it could be any kind of notebook) over on Kristina Werner’s blog so I decided to try to make my own. I really enjoyed making something different and I think it will be great for jotting down my card design ideas when I’m not in my craft room. I hope you like it!

Cards from Sunday’s meeting

As promised last night, below are some pictures of the cards we made during the demonstrator’s meeting on Sunday. I think it would be so much to do the snowman card during a “Mommy & Me” kids class…let me know if you’re interested. I got to try the shimmer paint  from the Holiday Mini Catalogue (page 27) on the snowman’s hat and I think I’m in LOVE…it’s so cool!!! I also got to try the  Stampin’ Write markers to create the duo-colour stamp on the little box and I’m totally excited about getting these markers…I’m just not sure which colours to pick. Last but definitely not least I think I’m head over heals over the punches…again I’m just not sure which ones I’m going to pick. I think I’m going to have a very very very long Christmas wish list for my family to choose from. Ok, ok…here are the cards!

My First Stampin’ UP! meeting!

Yesterday I went to my first Stampin’ Up! demonstrator meeting. There seems to be lots of firsts on this blog so far. Anyway, it was great…I’d never been around so many women that love paper crafting like me. It was very strange but oh sooooo cool. I saw so many really beautiful cards that I just can’t wait to try to make myself and so many ideas to try to incorporate into my style of card making. One of the highlights (for me anyway) was a discussion about one day scrapbooking. The idea is to create a scrapbook in a day so all you have to do is add pictures, journaling and some embellishments to it. How amazing would that be!!! So, I’ve decided to challenge myself…come up with a simple, affordable and beautiful template that people can follow to create a scrapbook in a day. I’ll set up a class once I’ve figured it all out…so watch for that announcement!!!

I’ll post some pictures tomorrow of the cards we made at yesterday’s meeting, they’re just so cute. Thanks Jenn for an AWESOME day!!!

My First Stampin’ Up Cards!

Well this has been an interesting 24 hours or so. First I got my kit but I couldn’t try anything out because I had to pick up my childern. After they were both in bed, my neighbour called and asked if I wanted to go for a walk…I just couldn’t refuse. I had such an awesome time, I can’t wait for our next walk. We got home and it was already after my “bedtime” but I couldn’t sleep, not until I assembled everything. Finally this morning I had some time to sit in my craft room and just PLAY!!! It was great, I had so much fun. I still don’t know what I’ll be demonstrating in a couple of weeks but at least I got to make a few cards to put on my blog for you to see. I realized from the first cut that the blade on my paper trimmer needed to be replaced but I just didn’t feel like going to pick one up. Anyway, you’ll have to excuse some of the frayed edges. Enjoy the cards!!!

My Starter Kit is HERE!!!

I just got my starter kit and I’m super excited about trying out all my new stamps, papers, inks, chalks and most of all my blender pens. I’ll have to make a card or two tonight so I can post them tomorrow.  Its almost time to pick up my little monkeys from daycare so I probably won’t get to touch anything until they’re both in their beds. Oh, I just can’t wait…who says they can’t have a 6pm bedtime :) !!! YAY!!!
